Description:
Three-lobed green leaves on a tendrilled vine. Spectacular flowers are bi-colored white and purple, and are among the most interesting you will ever see. Fragrant flowers are prized by bees and butterflies. Pollinated flowers become smooth, oval green fruits which are edible and tatsy, popping between your teeth. Grow on a trellis, or allow to sprawl across the ground, or plant at the base of a spring-flowering shrub to get a second season's worth of flowers. Woody in the south, where they are native, they die back to the ground in New England; Plant in a protected spot for the best results.
